Pittsburgh International Airport, Pennsylvania, United States
A New Passenger Experience for PIT.
Pittsburgh International Airport has entered a new era following the opening of its transformed terminal, creating a more streamlined and passenger-focused gateway for Western Pennsylvania.
The $1.7 billion transformation represents more than a decade of planning and four years of construction, with the new terminal designed around a simpler passenger journey, improved accessibility and more comfortable waiting environments. Pittsburgh International Airport specifically highlights larger gate areas with enhanced seating and charging as part of the new passenger experience.
As part of the development, Zoeftig has supplied circa 200 Vista seatplaces, perfectly complementing existing Zenky Plus seating previously supplied by Zoeftig and retained within the airport.
The new Vista installation combines linear configurations with a variety of linear and curved arrangements, allowing the seating to respond to different spaces throughout the transformed terminal.
Materials were selected to the architectural specification, with E-leather upholstery and solid-surface arm and table elements creating a finish aligned with the wider terminal interior. Integrated Boost power provides convenient access to charging within the passenger waiting environment.
Vista was selected following consideration of a range of cost, safety and design criteria, supporting Pittsburgh International Airport’s ambition to remain at the forefront of contemporary airport design.
Zoeftig’s involvement extended beyond product supply, encompassing space planning, supply and installation to ensure the seating configurations worked effectively within the different areas of the terminal.
The project also represents an interesting evolution of Zoeftig’s relationship with Pittsburgh. Rather than replacing the airport’s existing Zoeftig seating as part of the transformation, new Vista installations now sit alongside Zenky Plus seating already in service, bringing two generations of Zoeftig products together within the transformed airport.
For Zoeftig, Pittsburgh demonstrates how new passenger environments can be created while continuing to recognise the value of existing airport assets.
